Long weekend south - Where to go?

I thought I'd ask my fellow Ontarians this because I can't make up my mind. My wife and I would like to for for a long weekend in May down south to finish our OW Dives 3 & 4. We just got back from a cruise where we were supposed to do two dives in Grand Cayman and two in Cozumel. As luck would have it, the ship aborted Grand Cayman due to high winds, leaving us two dives short.

We'd like to just have 3 nights so we were thinking a quick, cheap trip to Florida or Bahamas or something like that. We need suggestions on where to stay and who to dive with.

We don't want to spend a lot of money getting there and our options are somewhat limited by JetsGo's recent demise.

Suggestions are welcome!

Cheap and Florida/Bahamas are not words I'd put together.

Cheap is someplace like San Andres, Columbia. Try Divers Team at Hotel Aquarium Superdecameron. Nelson Ramos runs the place. They are a PADI centre, so if you're doing a PADI course, you can certainly finish your OW dives there. And the hotel is right on the water.

If you're not doing a PADI course, you can always go to Cuba; they are NAUI, I think. Santiago de Cuba, on the south shores, has very beautiful reefs. Sierra Mar is a nice resort in Santiago de Cuba. A cheaper place is Bucanero. These places are both available right now for under $800-$900 on selloffvacations.com.

Have fun! But remember: a dive operator should not be chosen on the basis of "cheap" unless you value your life on the same terms...!

Sorry, I'm doing PADI and it was more the travel and hotel that I'm looking for cheap, I'd never cheap out on my training!! Cuba is obviously out.

I'll wait and see if anything comes up last minute in May.

I would say that a quick trip to Florida might not be crazy expensive, especially now that the Canadian dollar is stronger. You could always camp in the Florida Keys? Just remeber that you have to wait 24 hours before you can fly so you may only get one day of diving in if you limit yourslef to a long weekend.

I have 5 days off this weekend.....not going anywhere...not doing anything...relaxing. Playing Xbox, maybe dig through all the crap in my house and find my bike, ah but it needs a new chain....<sigh>....how about sleeping
