Congrats! I would spend some time at Beach 8th street shore diving to get used to the NE conditions. Beach 8th is in Far Rockaway, Queens by JFK airport and you can go to shorediving.com for more info on it. Beach 8th will get you used to dark, cold, low viz, tide issues, current, entanglement, and other NE diving concerns. Plus, it's full of life! Viz ranged from 0-15 feet this summer and last weekend it was about 40 ft! Have fun!
