In peabody. i got a ticket for an expired inspection sticker. The cop told me to get my vehicle inspected immediately and contest the ticket. Which is what I did. I waited for 2 hours, then sat infront of a clerk or someone representing the court. An officer was present. Not the one that issued my ticket. The clerk had the officer read the charges then had me argue my side. I never had to argue it though. The clerk asked me if I had my vehicle inspected and I said yes, within one hour of getting the ticket. She then dismissed the charges and that was it.

There is no advice like bad advice. And, I'm sorry to say I've seen plenty of that in some of the replies.

Since I am the only one who can say he or she actually sits as a traffic court judge, here is my 2 cents. I will not, however, give specific advice.......

Your reply involved more time and thought than I have ever seen from any judge in a MA ticket hearing. I have contested about 8 tickets (youthful indiscretions) and it goes something like this. Charges read by the cop, you say your two sentences, and you are found guilty period. They let people go every now and again so I think it's worth the effort to give it a shot. The process takes less than 3 minutes once you actually get into the courtroom. You spend an hour or more waiting however. MA has some of the worst auto insurance premiums in the country so it's worth a day to try to avoid the 7 yr record. (Some years ago tickets stayed on your record for only 3 years).
