A search operation in the US Virgin Islands ended tragically when the body of a missing diver was recovered late Monday night.

The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) reported that Craig Todman, known locally as "Tygah", was found deceased after an extensive search effort.

According to the police, the Emergency Call Center received a report at 5:38 pm about a diver who had not returned from a dive that started around 9:00 am off Fisherman's Dock in Frederiksted.

In response, several official units and private fishermen launched a search operation in the afternoon.

Despite their efforts, the official search was suspended at approximately 7:30 pm due to nightfall, with plans to resume at dawn.

However, determined private fishermen continued the search, recruiting additional help.

Their persistence paid off when they located Todman's body just after 11:00 pm.

The deceased was subsequently identified by his next of kin.
