So I've never dove around Venice, but I would like to get out there and do some fossil searching eventually. I am completely ignorant of the area though. Are there any lobster in the area, and if so is it legal to take them?

I have seen 2 lobsters in 15+ years diving Venice at shark tooth depths.
Yes it's legal to take if you have a fishing license w/ lobster permit and they meet all the requirements and it's season

Stone Crab is a different story, usually a lot around at the beginning of season and can still find them all season.
Fishing license required and they need to meet size

Thanks for the info! Stone crab are delicious too!

interesting how that works.......not many stone crabs noted on the Atlantic side and not many lobsters noted on the gulf side.....

It's all about environment, water temps, bottom structure, and appropriate food supply. I have only taken 3 in the last 15 years, but the last the past season was an 8 pounder in 80 feet of water.
