I have been diving since 1992. I fell in love with hunting immediately. I began diving with the Low Bottom Divers out of San Fernando Valley. I have only taken an open water course but have logged nearly 700 dives. I have never been successful in the day hunting for bugs. They are simply to difficult to get to. They are nocturnal creatures that feed at night. They walk around the bottom in the eel grass, sit on rocks near there holes they live in and even congragate. It's a very rare occassion that I do not catch at least three bugs on any given dive at NIGHT. The boat took your money. It was B.S. for them to tell you it is not easier at night. I have not been on a dive boat for at least three years. It's easy to get bugs right off the beach. Opening night this year, I was able to catch my limit in three to five feet of water within ten minutes of my dive. They were so thick it took the fun out of looking for them. I must say however, that every night after that i went diving, It has always been a searching operation, still with very good results!!!!!
