Is this having any effect on the cruise ships or are they still turning up Wednesdays and Fridays?

The greatest effect has been upon the European (air travel) market.

The North Americans have figured out that all of the "photo ops" are on the mainland, and they are still keeping and making travel plans to Roatan.

The Italian and the Spanish tourism has absolutely collapsed. They have quit running the two weekly chartered jets flying in 600 people per week from Europe. There are large AI's that cater exclusively to Italian and Spanish... they are all but closed down.

Apparently all of the coverage in Europe was perceived differently.

Maybe "we" (US/Canada) have a better understanding of the geography and distance (+ over water) from the protests and cameras on the mainland.

Another difference with the European market is that their travel and dive related message boards have been blanketed fairly well by doomsayers- some of them selling alternative trip destinations.

If anyone can figure out how to get the cruise ships to stop coming to Roatan, whatever days they show up, you might want to contact the people on Roatan and get that project in motion. :lotsalove:

May I ask how many years you have folowed central American politics?. [/B] Lets be honest, all is cool right now, And right now I see no reason to worry, curfew is back but its past my bedtime, I think its 11:30 tonight. I hope all will be great tomorow but until this is really resolved it is against everyones best interest to pretend there is nothing at all to be concerned about and really be honest.

So this is why my daddy taught me to never get in a pissing contest with a skunk???
:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

Seriously RTB Diver, it is not about how long I've been following Central American politics. I am simply concerned about Roatan and hate to see the great people there suffer needlessly. I don't think alarmist tactics benefit either those who have trips already booked or those who live on the island and depend on tourism to make a living.

Yes Cajun,
And this is why I was taught never to get into a battle of minds with an unarmed man/woman:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:
Now that we have our history out of the way why not stick to the facts . I too hate to see people suffer from this problem but for you to suggest people ignore it is simply irresponsible. I have never posted alarmist threads and have posted honestly about this. If you know for a fact this will be resolved without any issue then great, fill us in. Where do you get your facts. I know much of the Island depends on tourism, I spend a great deal of time here but i also will not lie and suggest i know that what is happening is nothing to be concerned about in the future. I hope you can share your crystal ball. Mel has put a deadline on the 24th, You must already know what will happen then, perhaps you can share that info with us and do away with concerns as to what will go on in the next few days.

As i have said, I notice no difference and dont expect to, PLEASE show me an alarmist thread. But remember, you told people with plans for the future to not be concerned as if you really knew that. I simply post the facts so DD and Aguilofo don't jump on me for sugarcoating things , your posts are purely speculation.

Thanks for the feedback. I got Wednesdays and Fridays from looking up cruise schedules. This really is going off topic now, but what are the days the boats do actually come in? It'd be useful to help plan what days we spend touring the island rather than staying on the beach or diving. (we're visiting on Thursday for ten days).

Dr. B,
Best thing is probably to just ask the folks where your staying what the schedule that week is. Online itineraries change or can be off but believe me, most locals know jst when to expect a boat comming in so you can plan your sidetrips then

Currently the schedule is Wednesday (Carnival Valor) comes in afternoon and Friday. The Friday ship is out by the late morning/early afternoon. The cruise crowd has decreased as well, since last week there seemed less people than average according to the locals. Please don't go on that, since it can change.

Gee - the man who has all the facts got it wrong after all...
:no: Wrong again I never said I had all the facts but did say what I post is factual. There is a difference. If I didn't keep pointing out your screwups I would probably be bored. My post was completely factual. I mentioned I thought he had days wrong and in fact I did think that. It would be as if you posted that you think you know what your talking about, that may be factual that you THINK it and thats a fact, thanks for such interesting writing
