Just got back from 8 days at the Southern Cross Club on Little Cayman. :D I didn't want to leave. Weather was perfect. Diving was beautiful. This was my husband's and my second trip to Little Cayman. The first one was at the Little Cayman Beach Resort a few Decembers ago. We had a great time there too, but if and when we return, it will be to the Southern Cross Club. Why? It's much smaller. The max # of people on a dive boat is 12. The most we dove with all week was 8, and half the time there were only 4 or 5 of us. At LCBR, the dive boats hold at least 18, and when we were there they were full all the time. On the plane leaving the island, we talked to a couple who had been at LCBR who said their boats had 20 people on them every day. The dive masters at Southern Cross (Mike, Justine and Christian) were delightful and were much better at finding and pointing out a lot of little stuff - we saw coral banded shrimp, tiny cleaner shrimp, brittle stars and decorator crabs, to name a few. Now we know where to look for those guys. I don't remember the LCBR divie masters doing any of that. The food was terrific - not as much of it as at the LCBR, but still plenty enough and who needs as much food as we tend to eat while away anyway? The staff was uniformly warm and interested in meeting all our needs. We were diving nitrox, and the first half of the week, we were getting underfilled tanks - sometimes less than 2800 PSI. They get their tanks filled at LCBR. We told the dive masters and the manager at Southern Cross several times, and they indicated they talked to LCBR about it, at first without results. Finally, for the last couple of days the tanks were more full. Even though we hadn't asked for any special consideration, Neil at Southern Cross gave us a 30% discount off the cost of the nitrox because of all the underfills.

Yes, LCBR is more lively, and has a nicer pool area. And as I said, we did have a good time there. But in the future it's the Southern Cross Club for us.

And by the way, we saw a GOLIATH GROUPER at Randy's Gazebo!!! We came out of a swim through and there it was sitting on the bottom. That sucker had to have been 7 or 8 feet long. It looked like a Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade balloon. Never saw anything like it.

Anyway, we love Little Cayman and will probably be returning in the future.

Happy diving.

Very Nice! Diving at Little Cayman will cause you to compare every other Caribbean dive areas.

Caymaniac, next to Dominica, it's the best.......

judypots,
Very nice report. Yes, LCBR does tend to really load their boats, often to the park maximum of 20 divers. At LCBR, 2800 is considered to be a full fill. Since they limit dives to 60 minutes, this is seldom a problem. Neil at Southern Cross is a quality guy. I'm not surprised that he treated you well.
