Qnape,
I'm glad that you had a good trip to LC. Getting lost and coming up on the wrong boat is quite common, and the DM's are used to it. Some resort divers are so "navigationally challenged" that I have seen them come up on the wrong boat 250 yards from their own. One memorable time, some years ago, was when a man who bragged about being on his 13th trip to LC led his group of 3 at Nancy's. The pinnacle was just off the stern, and somehow he could not find it in 100' vis. After the dive, his wife really got on him about that. But, to his credit, he did lead them back to the right boat.
Winter often means strong winds from the north and since Bloody Bay park lies on the north side of the island, the resort boats often dive the south side. But since they are not dived as much, the south side sites, especially the deep ones, are usually very good dives with much healthier coral. The deep sites on the south side are by far my favorites.
When the seas are rough, the DM's always discuss how to get back on the boat. This advice is often ignored by divers, and consequently some get hurt and some fall off of the ladders and have do retries. Many people do not realize just how powerful the ocean is, even with the relatively small seas that the resort boats dive in. With a little common sense, patience, and following the DM's instructions all will be well. The DM's really earn their money when assisting divers at such times, and I hope that this assistance is taken into account at tip time.
