Poseidon will be coming out with a swivel turret in 1-2years, but they do not make sealed diaphragms and this next one will be similar to the MK3 on the top side.

Tek3 as mentioned is an "adjustment" of the DS4 and there isn't really a way to put a bottom port on it. You can use a 90* adapter if you want to. They really aren't great for doubles though and I think a lot of people are using them for CCR bottles which is where they are pretty useful instead of using manifold blocks.
@pinshootr I'm not aware of anyone using them for sidemount. I personally wouldn't choose them for sidemount since the lack of swivel is a kink hazard in an air sharing situation.

I highly doubt you will be able to tell a difference with the MK25 at the first stage level compared to your Dive Rite first stage. the second stages will make more of a difference since the XT1 will still flow more air than the tank valve
well come on up to Michigan and Ohio and I can show you a bunch

Also, I have read more than once that all the Atomic regs are the same design and breathe the same. So, why the M1 specifically?
Internally they use the same part kits, pistons will be made of different materials. The M1 comes from the factory environmentally sealed and uses a monel piston (as does the T3) instead of stainless

I doubt you will notice any difference in performance between a SP Mk25 and any of the Atomic 1st stages. They are all typically unsealed piston regs though, so the opposite of what you want. If you want it sealed, just go with a sealed diaphragm reg.

The monel is supposed to be safer for high oxygen mixes. If you don't need oxygen over 40%, any of the atomics will be fine.

Atomic 1st stages:
Z - Brass
B - Brass
M - Monel
ST - Stainless
T - Titanium

ScubaPro does not make anything that fits my requirements. But, it is my understanding that they used to make a reg that they only sold in Europe that did. It was basically a Mk 17 with a swivel turret and 5th LP port. Anybody know exactly what that was? I would look out for a used set of those, if I could find them.

That was called the MK-19. My understanding is that they were only in the Scubapro Catalog for 2-3 years before being discontinued.

You seem to be progressing pretty quickly in your diving. I would like to add one more criteria and that is the availability of parts for the DIY. When you start going into tech diving will be adding additional regulators and you want the option of DIY. This may narrow your choices, as I don't think Apeks nor Hollis sell parts to the end user.

in the US Apeks, Aqualung, Scubapro, Hollis/Oceanic all restrict parts to the end user. That said since @stuartv is associated with a dive shop so may be able to get parts that way if they are an authorized dealer for those brands

@pinshootr that must be a local thing. I will make an adjustment to that statement. I think that the Toddy style divers will use Tek3's as well. They are obviously not compatible with the Bogarthian system due to lack of 5th port, are not able to use lollipop gauges which is a bit of a turnoff for some other regulator setups, and without a swivel put you at higher risk of crimping the hose off in an air sharing situation which is why you don't see them in cave country.
You can obviously use whatever regs you want, and if you are already invested in Tek3's, there is no reason not to use them, but they are about the last regulator I would recommend if you are purchasing new for the reasons mentioned above

I'm already tech diving at the TDI Helitrox level. I failed to list in my OP that I also want any reg I get to be able to be O2 cleaned so I can use it on a deco bottle.

I have no trouble getting service kits for my current Hollis and Dive Rite regs from Dive Gear Express. But, you make a good point about making sure I can buy service kits for whatever other regs I buy. tbone is correct that I am currently a staff DM at a shop, so it's not an issue right now. But, it's always possible that I will still be using any regs I buy long after I detach from the shop some day down the road.

The only reason for considering the Mk 25 EVO is the sheer number of people that seem to think it is the best breathing reg you can buy. If I had seen that many recommendations for the M1, I might consider it.

SP has a much larger customer base due to its size and longevity in the dive business and hence you will hear more about it than Atomic.

why the M1 specifically?

Because it is the one that is made specifically for technical and cold water diving. It is also 80% (possibly 100%) O2 compatible right out of the box. Performance is the same across the board for Atomic regulators but there are subtle differences in the materials they use for each model and also some features are made for special purposes (as well as the lack of some features). The M1 doesn't have titanium but has other type of material used to make it almost as resilient to corrosion and reliability. It also lacks the hose swivel but has cold water protection in the second stage LP hose connection.

BTW, price-wise, the M1 is reasonably priced within its class.

And it will take the same $25 hose swivel (OmniSwivel knock-off) that all my other regs use? I would have sworn I read somewhere that Atomic hose swivels would not fit on other regs.

They are all typically unsealed piston regs though

No, this isn't true always for the Atomic regulators, you can get any of their first stages in a sealed version.
