We are planning to Dive Curacao in March or April and trying to decide upon a place to stay. I want to walk to the dive shop if possible and not too large of a resort. Anyone know about either resort or have any other recommendations. Thanks

Hi Jerry,

Coming to Curacao to dive is always a good decision :)

Rancho el Sobrino has no real dive shop. Curacao Divers will just put a couple of tanks there every day, but offer no further service as far as I know. Ocean Encounters at Lion's Dive is a professional dive operation with all kind of service, including boat diving.

If you prefer to stay on the West end of Curacao - which I can fully understand (I live in Westpoint and work for ..:: All West Curacao ::.. and ..:: Ocean Encounters West Curacao ::..) - then diving with Ocean Encounters West might be an option for you. You could stay at All West Apartments (3 minutes by car from OEW dive shop, but featuring a fully equipped dive locker room on site - tanks, rinse tanks, hangers etc. - perfect setup for shore divers), or at the Kura Hulanda Lodge hotel (Curacao Beach Resort | Lodge Kura Hulanda and Beach Club). The Lodge is not a very big resort, but a nice place to stay. It is located right neighbors to OEW on the same beach - Playa Kalki. The house reef "Alice in Wonderland" is well known all around the island as one of the best shore dives on Curacao. At OEW we offer both - boat diving, and service for shore divers.

If you need more information or have specific questions, just pm me - I will be glad to help!

Greetings from Curacao
Andreas

Lion's Dive might be all right if you need to party at night. There are some hoppin' night spots next door. LD is a fairly good size and among 4 other hotels/resorts. It's about a half mile walk to The Dive Bus also.
If you are coming to dive, dive, dive, I'd recommend Westpunt and definitely All West over Rancho Sobrino. They have tanks and stairs to the beach and a great house reef (all of Westpunt Bay). Ocean Encounters West is a short 1/2+ mile walk or 2 minute car ride. It is very quiet "out in the country" but we like it. Check out Andreas's (above) web sites. We have some notes on our web site that will explain more than you really want to know about Westpunt and the surrounding area. Don't worry, you won't be tested.
