Giggi:
He'd probably just be mistaken for another air-sucking, buoyancy problematic noob. Maybe PADI could come up with a new specialty: Wildlife Divers (for wildlife who want to learn to dive).
I thought that was what the new National Geographic Certification was...

In some ways, finding out this was just a hoax put on by some lowlife to avoid paying a fine for illegally burying his pet lion makes it an even more bizarre and entertaining story. What we lose in the possibility of a cruise ship passenger being carried off in the jaws of a lion we gain in the insight into a truly disturbed person...;)

As a side note, I bicycled right by a decrepid old theme park-type place on the road that cuts across the southerly part of the island. I assume that was this guy's place.

This guy's place is in town on Juarez between 30 and 60. There were 2 lions in a cage out in the garden of his restaurant, one of the La Mission's. One night we were eating there and went back to check it out after we heard a roar and asked the waiters what it was. We thought they were kidding. They have a bunch of other critters back there too. The 2 lions were on a cement pad surrounded by the kind of fence you'd have around a tennis court. They appeared very docile, thank goodness because there was a 10 year old girl, completely unsupervised with her hand through the fence petting the pretty kitty. Yikes! We also ate there with our boss once and we were all upset about the caged owl. A good sized owl with probably a 4' wingspan was in a tiny cage having panic attacks and getting it's wings caught on the cage. I'm sure it's in his pet cemetary too.
