You are VERY lucky Charlie or you speak good bahasa, every year in the last decade I paid and paid Lion Air for excess luggage, especially when 3 years ago Garuda had the clever idea to remove their sports luggage allowancy that strangely reappaeared the year after.
Then I decided I had enough of LionAir. I stll prefer to fly Alor with Transnusa for instance than LionAir, at least you can speak with them and they (sometimes) listen.

Luko, good comment. Sometimes the desk agent looks at my passport, with numerous visas and work permit/Kitas. They ask why I travel so much to Indonesia and I tell them i work with locals in earthquakes and tsunami studies. Usually, they just give me a big smile and wish me well.

outofofficebrb - fluent bahsa is no surprise, just look at DanT’s full name. Let’s make a foresome, with my wife for a Indonesia trip.

Well, I tried to pull you guys into my Ring of Fire trip, didn’t I? Hopefully we can do it together next time with other SB folks that like to dive in Indonesia. The more, the merrier. We can charter the whole boat for us. :)

I put my bahasa Indonesia into a good use when our flight from Makassar to Denpasar was cancelled due to Mt.Agung impending eruption last December. Six of us ended up staying an unplanned night in Makassar & got another flight to Denpasar on the next day.

BTW, bahasa means language (originally from Sanskrit). So, you need to add Indonesia to it. Otherwise some SEA folks would wonder which bahasa you are referring to, as there are other bahasa to speak, e.g., bahasa melayu (for Malaysia), bahasa Sunda (for West Java), bahasa Jawa (for Middle & East Java), etc.

SB invaded Philippines(PG and Dumaguete) not too long ago so perhaps Indonesia is on the pipeline! I am convinced that will attract a big crowd and more than one boat will be needed to cater them.

Great info there guys!

I will keep my fingures crossed as I have booked with a mix of Garuda, Wings Air and Lion Air. All my flights are early in the morning (7-8am) so that should help. I will also be travelling light (ish) so should not be too much of excess bagage fee...
