I'm curious if anyone has limited sight in one eye,I do.So I guess my question would be if this has caused any problem for you.During and after my OW class I inform people I'm diving with of this problem not for sympathy but to inform them in case I may be getting to close or bumping into them.My dive buddy knows this and was wondering if she should be on my good side or my bad side.Any thoughts on this?I thought about a side view mirror but she wasn't happy with the idea of taking it off her car :11doh: .Anyway just curious.

Geez. That *and* an airhog.... :D (just teasing)

I think it's obvious that your buddy should adjust their position to suit what works for you.

Also, you might consider working on forms of (passive) communication using lights, sound or touch to avoid having to look around for your buddy all the time. Just a thought.

Assuming that the vision in your other eye is fine...I too have one eye that is far less than perfect, but it hasn't kept me from doing anything other than getting a pilots license. I have adapted to it in every other aspect of my life, diving is no different.

Bob,
I too have had to adjust to this problem most of my life, driving, etc. but since I,m new to diving and bored at work I thought about this and was wondering if anyone else on SB may have this problem and how he or she may have adjusted. That all being said, have you had any problems with this? Basically I'm less than 200 vision in my right eye. I have not had any problems yet
and keep my self aware of whats going on my right side as much as possible.I guess Im' paranoid that Cuda is going to sneek up on me :D

Lanny,
Mine is 20/400 in my right eye...It has never been a problem for me at all in diving. I usually will keep my buddy on my right side so that I can reach their inflator hose if they panic, and yes, that is on the same side as my bad eye, but it has never been a problem.

I agree. I like to have my buddy(wife) on my good side(left) so I can keep good visual contact with her, plus I can watch out for any male critters trying to get to close to her eyebrow .

Well, I have a blind area covering about a third of my left eye but its on the inside so the right eye covers the same area - so it's not really a problem.

Concerning your issue, I'd say keep your buddy on your good side. Losing a buddy is a bad thing and generally means surfacing and probably the end of the dive - not to mention the safety issues.

My wife lost central vision in her right eye years ago. She says it doesn't bother her under water, but she has a problem with depth perception above. She was a little freaked the first time she did a backroll, but did ok on the second dive of the day because she knew what to expect. Similar anxiety with a giant step off a new boat. This topic got me thinking of how to position myself when one of us is leading and the other following. I never really thought till now of what I could do to make it better.
