Good luck in your choice, but please do not make the mistake in thinking that the newer designs are any better than the older ones. By "out of date" I'm only guessing that you think modern regulators perform better than earlier models or perhaps you think they will last longer. This is simply not true. My "new" regulator is 20 years old and will be around when the newer plastic pieces of crap are relegated to the closet collage. The Regulator, Sea Hunt, and DIY forums are loaded with divers, technicians and engineers who will be more than happy to point out that their 40 year old regulators perform just as well or better than mine.

I use Apeks regs and the XTX second stage is a nice size. They are now owned by Aqualung so service and parts are availible almost anywhere.
