currently have a sherwood oasis however i dont really like it too much so i want to upgrade here is 3 ive been lookin at at one of my LDS (we only have 2 damn it) what would u guys pick and if u could please tell me why

I currently have a Sherwood Oasis II, I like it just fine but going into cavern diving I am wanting to upgrade.

Scuba Pro MK25/600 DIN is what I will be purchasing next. Quality of Scuba Pro and only recently have I even heard of Apex regs so don't know much about them.

How cold is the water you regularly dive in? The Mk25 first stage is not a very good cold water reg. The Atomic would be better, and the Apeks even better yet in my opinion. But I'm partial to diaphragm regs over piston for all cold water. If the water is warm, you can't go wrong with any of them.

warm........ im in okinawa (swamp a$$ of the world) but the diving is great here...as soon as i get out of the military ill be back in FL

I've used the scubapro and the apeks. I prefer the apeks, it just felt better breathing off of it. However, the atomic regs have an extra low pressure port that can be nice for hose routing on doubles from what I have seen.

That being said, I currently dive with Zeagle Envoy Deluxes and have had them in water as cold as 50 degrees, black water and as deep as 175 feet with no problem (not all in the same dive). Granted the 175 foot dive had a little helium in the mix which makes everything breath great.

Hello Corpsman 82

First of all, thank you for your service to this country.

I'm sure that any of those regs would be acceptable, but in order to save money you might consider:

1. Can your current reg be tuned to make it breath better? Perhaps a different mouth piece would make it more comfortable.
2. Buy just a second stage that you like.
3. I usually try to avoid suggesting a different regulator than one a poster has asked about, but to me it is well worth the few extra bucks to get a diver adjustable second stage, if you are going to go with SP, get the G250V; If you are going to buy used get the Balanced Adjustable or older G250 (not HP)

I just read an excellent post by DA Aquamaster in this thread. You might find useful.

good luck and tell us what you decided.

All of the regs you asked about are fantastic. I own the Apeks and the SP. I prefer the Apeks for cold water and my SP for my deco bottle and warm water trips. I have tried the Atomic as well. It was one of the easiest breathing regs I have ever used. Not cheap though. If I was to buy another I would probably go with the Apeks. Initial costs are a bit less as well as service and parts. At least this is what I have found to be the case.

thanks for all the info guys....as soon as i get back from the "sand box" to okinawa ill more then likely pick up either the SP or the apex.....still not certin between which one i like....they have rental gear on base however its all extremly out of date and in horrible condition. they used to have a try before u buy but they got rid of that for some reason....wish i could try them out to see which one i like better but looks like im gonna have to make another gamble and hope i like the choice
