1. If you're carrying your regs on, how would 1/2 lb one way or the other make any difference?

2. If you're checking your regs, then carry them on and see #1.

If you have several hundred $$$'s to toss away, toss it my way! :)

If you can get your hands on a USD Micra you might like it.

zzzking keep zzzing, its more than halving the weight of my current set-up and I'm going to PNG where they're super strict on weight allowances. This will make a huge difference!

H2Obaby,

Sorry if I don't fully appreciate your situation but I'm pretty concerned bout weight as I do most of my diving overseas and I really hate having to lug this gear about.

Why are you concerned bout only the reg?

Anyway if you are really concerned bout weight, this is lightest but still practical setup.

I refuse to compromise when it comes to my regs so..
1. Either the Mk25 or Mk27 is real light in the first place, I'm thinking that either one of them are much lighter than your current setup.

Instead of a console that weights a ton just get a small brass SPG, a wrist computer and a wrist compass.

As for a bc, I really think that the O-pac from oxycheq coupled with their razor wings will be really light compared to a regular bc. You might want to contact Scubatoys to find out bout the non advertised Razor wing. They give a 10% discount to scubaboard members too.

You could also save quite a bit on light but competent fins like the Aeris Velocity Fins.

This article is give some decent advice too.

I've added some links.

SangP - yes I agree, a whole lot of weight can be shaved off in other areas.
Thanks for the link.
Anyone got a MK25 SA S600?

H2Obaby,

Why are you asking bout the Mk25? My warm water setup is a Mk25SA/S600/S600 what would you like to know bout it?

is it good? is it light? does it breathe easily? is it worth the $$? can you make any comparisons between it and say the oceanic titanium delta 3?

Maybe it’s not me that needs to go back to Zzzing as much as it’s you that need to wake up. The best way to save a half pound is to LEAVE SOME CRAP THAT YOU DON’T NEED AT HOME. If you can’t accomplish that, one work around is to put it in two bags instead of one. Even at 40# limit, that gives you 80# worth of retractors and miscellaneous dive trinkets to play with on your trip. All that would be in addition to what you have in your one carry-on bag plus one personal item limit. (Hint - the one personal item could be a regulator set inside of a reg bag) Can’t image the rig that would weigh 80# unless you’re carrying stage bottles and your own lead. Maybe you could help me out here:

The heaviest traveling rig I can think of:

SS Backplate w/ STA & wing – 15#
Fins – 4#
Mask – doesn’t matter because you carry it on
Computer/Bottom Timer – doesn’t matter because you carry it on
Exposure Protection – 20# (assume drysuit w/ accoutrements)
Regulator set – doesn’t matter because you carry it on
Boots – 4#
Cannister light – 10#
Backup lights – 3# x 2 = 6#
Weight belt – 1#
BFK – 3# (to strap to your leg)
Miscellaneous – 5# (compass, slate, retractors, etc.)

Total Checked Weight – 68#
Total Checked Weight w/ Titanium regulator – 68#

My own travel rig:

Alum Backplate w/ STA & wing – 10#
Fins – 4#
Mask – doesn’t matter because I carry it on
Computer/Bottom Timer – doesn’t matter because I carry it on
Exposure Protection – 3# (3mm full suit)
Regulator set – doesn’t matter because I carry it on
Boots – 4#
Backup lights – 3# x 2 = 6#
Weight belt – 1#
Miscellaneous – 5# (compass, slate, retractors, etc.)

Total Checked Weight – 30#
Fits in one checked bag and allows for a small SAD kit and clothes for several days in the tropics. Carry-ons fit in a single backpack.

The only people I can imagine throwing away $300-400 to save half a pound are either Aerospace Engineers or idiots. If you are saving a half pound because you are too lazy to carry it on, then guess which category I would put you in. If you check your regulator for the TSA monkeys to play with, then guess which category I would put you in. If that half pound is the difference between getting to the moon and back safely, or executing a 9G turn, then guess which category I would put you in.

If you’re just looking for an excuse to buy a titanium regulator, well, you don’t need an excuse. You just need the money. Go buy one.

There, now I’ll go back to Zzzing.

ZzzKing, I think what the OP means is that he is traveling on regional airlines when he is overseas. I have read in other forms that they are very strict on baggage, INCLUDING carry-ons. So it may be worthwhile saving a few pounds. Personally, I am trying to find a decent mk-18 or mark-20 ultralight cheap.
