Lightweight gear seems to be important for (mostly US I guess) those who travel with their dive gear, and in that regard CF is definitely superior to stainless.I never said people wouldn't buy it, I said it's a dumb material for the purpose. Even if brittleness isn't a problem, in what way is it superior to stainless?
Likewise, titanium is a dumb material for regulators. You pay a lot of money to save a pound that you are going to have to add back in lead anyway. And it can destroy itself and potentially injure you if you inadvertently run a high O2 mix through it.
Cheaper to rent some lead at the destination than pay for the extra weight at the airport I guess?
Never came across an unreasonable fee for extra luggage here in the EU so just guessing.
