This is Stenella Frontalis (Atlantic spotted dolphin) in the background, Tursiops Truncatus (Bottlenose Dolphin) in the foreground. This image was taken in Bimini (Bahamas) in July 2002. I was upside down (feet out of the water and head down) as the pod swam by. This is the very same pod where I took ‘Tag’. Only difference is this was taken with my nikonos V with a 20mm nikkor lens and ‘Tag’ was taken with my Elan IIe.

Do you usually see the Spotted and Bottlenose dolphins together?

Great picture!

Hello,

Yes, they interbreed. You will see offspring that looks like a spotted bottlenose. They are unmistakable. Sadly the offspring doesn't fit in to well with either pod and they often form their own pods.

Very often will you see two different species pods mingle. What is a sight to see is the adults of multiple pods form one big pod while the young will pod by themselves. Think of it as a dolphin daycare.

I can't quite make out an address in the border of your picture and I'd love to see more of your work.

My favorite is Pod1...very cool!

Hello,

Pod1 is the captian of the boat (well her hubby and her are both captians) i've been working with that one and when the colors/brightness/contrast is right i'll be posting it
