One of the main reasons to use longer arms for strobe lights is avoid or minimize backscatter. With video lights the light intensity is a lot less than for strobes. Backscatter becomes more or less a non problem unless theres really alot of particles in the water. I'm using 2 10 watt HIDs with my Gate PC330. The light heads are mounted on top of the handles on a very short extension. I always get good lighting unless its REALLY filthy. Depending on your beam width, you may want to separate them a little for wide angle shots.
