Check this out Black Sand Dive Resort, a small resort so you don't have to be worried about overcrowding and they are only less than 5 minutes away from most of the best dive sites in Lembeh Strait. Ask for Hengke, the best guide, the best spotter. Good luck

Ginam--

curious about your post...you recommend Hengke as the best guide spotter but you have no dive experience? 2 of your posts recommend Black Sand resort and 2 others recommend dive travel companies. Are you a travel agent? Have you actually been to Black Sand? Would just like some background for your recommendation(s).

There are quite a few local operators on here recommending their resorts. Unfortunately not all of the places can afford / or want a budget for marketing so use these forums to try and drum up extra business. Its a pain when trying to find a true recommendation but they are normally quite easy to spot .
Rob Sinke at Divers Lodge offers a very good and unique product though he is outside the straight and there are some good things happening at NAD, especially if you want to improve your photography. For the higher end resorts Lembeh Resort is nice but very steep and constantly changing management. There is a lot of chatter about a new place opening called Lembeh Hills which I have yet to see but is supposed to be very high end. Lembeh Resort and KBR have some of the best dive guides in the area ( partly because they have been there the longest ) though quite a few of KBR's guides have left or are leaving to the new Lembeh Hills!!

Bastianos is good, the resort is very nice and the dive team are superb, Winston and Stephen will show you anything.........

Hello Camel,

thank for the compliment. But we are really not outside the Strait. Actually, we are opposite some of the better dive sites in front of Madidir. The more well known sites are also never more than 40 minutes away. Although we are situated at the South West side of the island of Lembeh. So we easely can dive the ocean side of Lembeh as wel from Nov. - May.
Instead of losing much time by going back to the Lodge after every dive our guests often prefer to stay at the boat for the lunch. Now each bungalow now has his own boat.

How is the diving on the East side of Lembeh? Any great drop offs, coral gardens or big stuff to be seen?

I want to second the recommendation of others for Bastianos. Tasty food, very friendly staff, safety first (we did a wreck dive, and a group from a neighboring dive center had to rescue their own dive guide!!), and very knowledgeable guides...Very highly recommended!

Hello Rakorzky,

Diving the East side of Lembeh Island can be done from October until April (this year May). Best early morning. Very calm sea, more than excellent viz. The drop offs do not go down as deep as Bunaken but at about 40 meters it becomes a slope. Very good sponges and hard corals. Some sites also good soft corals. Best thing about this side are the huge schools of average sized fish. Only a few white tips and sometimes eagle rays and big tunas. For us it is only a 15 minute trip ;-))
