To your question will we price-match Leisure Pro? Let me sum up my answer in three words or less............"In a heartbeat!"

A dive center owner that won't match a quoted legitimate price from someone else is a special ( but not uncommon ) breed.

We pay big bucks to advertise, for the sole purpose of bringing people into our store. If you, as an astute shopper, is willing to come in, bring a quote from someone else, and ask if we'll price match......well gosh golly gee.....we didn't have to pay (the advertising fees) to bring you here, so we are already ahead of the game.

Will I lose money matching that price? Most likely not. Every now and then we find LP selling something old or otherwise out of date or current circulation, and once we point that out to our customer, it becomes a non-issue. But geeez..assuming it is a current product,.. .if we pay $100 for something, and hope to sell it for $200, but you bring in a price quote for $150, should we refuse to sell that cause we won't make the extra $50 I was hoping for? No, we will sell it, cause we are a) still making $50, and b) satisfying a customer who will be back in our store, and who will refer friends.

So, to answer your question, yes please visit, and feel free to bring your price quotes1

In this case, they sold gear for which they are not a dealer (Atomic) again giving us a public display of their business ethics.
Is there something unethical about selling goods they are not authorized dealers for? Where do you think they got the gear? Did they somehow misrepresent their status as a non-authorized dealer?

I am fairly scrupulous about my personal ethics, and I recently sold a McMurdo Pains-Wessex personal locator beacon that I no longer wanted. I am not an authorized McMurdo Pains-Wessex dealer. Do I have to re-examine my ethics?

They're selling it for about $610 including shipping, which is about $90 less than list price. For $90, you're giving up the factory warranty and service by a dealer that actually works on Atomics on a regular basis.

Considering that LP has exactly one Atomic reg on their website, I can't imagine they're doing a lot of parts stocking or training or bought the tools needed to disassemble/reassemble and re-pack the grease.

Interesting, Terry, but completely irrelevant to the question of LP's ethics that Indian Valley Scuba raised.

As an aside, I bought my two Atomic regulators from authorized dealers because they were unavailable at LP at the time. When LP started selling them, the price difference was about $160 on an M1, and I would have happily bought them from LP and sacrificed whatever benefits authorized status conveys.

I would imagine that if I brought an LP-purchased regulator into Pan-Aqua, an authorized dealer, they would service it for the same price they charge me now for the regulator I bought at Village Divers, which costs me about $80, if I recall correctly. But I could be wrong. As far as I know, though, I did not receive any free parts deal or discounted service deal when I bought my regulators from authorized dealers.

Unless I am missing something here or Indian Valley Scuba is blowin smoke I dont see what the problem is. I go on LP and i get a price. I print out the page, drive on over to Indian Valley Scuba and bang price match, I go home with the same thing I wanted in the first place, support my LDS and get to talk to what I can only assume are great people. I guess I am still a NOOB because I dont understand what all the fuss is about????

Come on in Kevin, we are great people, you get great product at excellent prices, you make new friends, socialization is a key part of diving, everyone wins!

See you soon!

Excellent observation and post, Terry.

And good you did your research - you are correct that they don't really service anything. And not to beat a dead horse but they are not an Atomic dealer, if you don't understand that, look at the Atomic website and see if LP comes up on the dealer listing - the answer is NO. I deal with the Atomic folks weekly on this, and LP buys Atomic from other dealers looking to wholesale product ( and who get caught, due to serial numbers) or from European dealers who do not have the same restriction in their dealer agreements that US dealers do.

But the bottom line is will we stand behind the product, will we work with you, will we talk to you? The answer to all of the above at Indian Valley Scuba is YES. And yes, we match the prices. So you decide who you want to befriend with your purchasing power.

So they buy their Atomic goods in a legal commercial transaction that is not unethical. Thanks for clarifying that.

If I buy an Atomic regulator from LP and bring it to you in 2 years for it's scheduled servicing, will you service it? Will you charge the same amount that you charge people who bought their regulators from authorized dealers? Do you have the ability to check where I bought my regulator from? Do you require customers to show receipts or other warranty verification for regular service? Because I have never shown proof of warranty when I have had my Atomic regulators serviced, nor was I afforded any special treatment or discount, as far as I know. They have been serviced by an authorized dealer other than the one I bought from.

Vladimir, if you brought your [any brand] regulator in, would we service it? YES.

If you brought in gear you bought from LP or anyone else, and asked for help assembling or testing it before you used it, would we help you? YES

Would we charge you? NO

Why, you may ask? Read my earlier posts - we would love to have you in our shop!

The next time I am in Harleysville I will drop in. It sounds like a good shop.
