 I'm new to diving and recently received my cert. I recently purchased a Aqualung Legend LX ACD regulator and the salesman told me that I could use the Sherwood Magnum Octo. He was out of the legend octo and gave me a discount on the Sherwood. I didn't think that would work, but he told me it would, so thats what I purchased. Before I plan a trip to dive and, find out the hard way if I was right, I wanted to find out more from the experts here. Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the board!
I don't see any reason that the combination wouldn't work.

As the previous posters mentioned you do not have a problem with the setup. However if you move to a location where the local shop is not a Sherwood and Aqualung dealer you could have a problem with service. IMHO it is always best to have the first and both second stages of a regulator from the same manufacturer. That way the shop can get parts to service both of your second stages.

Keep in mind that the Legend is over-balanced and therefore the octo needs to be able the handle the higher IP at depth. I know nothing about Sherwood regs. As long as the Magnum can work with an over-balanced 1st stage, you should be fine.

Thanks everyone, my LDS services both AL and sherwood. I don't plan on moving anytime soon, the only problem I would have is if the LDS moved.

Some diveshops have a regrettable tendency especially in low season to try to sell you whatever they have in stock rather than what you really need.

AL makes an octopus specifically for the Legend which is balanced so as to avoid any problems with the way the Legend increases IP at depth. Other AL octopi have a venturi switch to desensitize the octopus which can serve somewhat the same purpose. Most of the Sherwood octopi, best I can recall, have neither. It's hard to say how necessary this is in real life, but it makes sense to me to use the octopus AL recommends since one is available.

It also makes sense from a service and resale point of view to stick with the same-make octopus. If you had the Sherwood kicking around, I'd say try it, or if they were giving you a hell of a deal on the Sherwood and would take it back if it didn't work out (though you won't know for sure if it does until to get down deep), but if you are paying full price for an octopus, why not get the right one and be sure it will work?

It does help with discussions if you complete your Profile. And it's even more fun when you load an Avatar (personal pic for each post) and a Profile pic. See UserCP to access these if you'd like to...? ;)

If you haven't yet, click Forums above and start going thru the list - looking for those of interest to you, especially your local dive club. Always good to try a Search before starting a new thread, tho :search: and be careful about posting Threads & Replies without reading the Stickies at the tops of most forums.
