My point here is that people slate the LDS's , now dont get me wrong if I wanna buy say a set of regs , of course I go online to get a ballpark figure so as to get a good deal at the LDS.....But ....

My Point here is that the LDS bashers seem to want to totally slate Dive stores & centers which , if there were none !! There would simply BE no diving . For most dive centers equipement sales is part of their buisnes , which without , their buisness wouldnt survive !!!

So wouldnt it be wonderful all you LDS bashers that next time you arrive at your exotic destination with all your cheapskate gear you got on the internet you found to your horros there were NO Dive centers !!!!!= No Diving !!!!! , hey try going online to order a days diving !

& the reason prehaps you dont get coffee or are frindly is prehaps you go into a shop expect the same prices as internet is because you dont shop there !

If it wasnt for LDS / Dive Centers & resorts which all relay on equpiment sales there would be NO sports diving ! Thats the bottom line NOT the bottom price .

And another thing I know what I,ve written in this thread , so no need to copy & paste it if youd like to address what I,ve said !!!!!!!

Shame on you LDS bashers , you give the rest of us a bad Name !

Sorry, but this is a load of cr@p. NO-ONE bashes LDS's in general. They whine about bad experiences, or poorly run outfit. I think it' extremely naive to think that ANYONE comes in with a mindset whereby online=good, LDS=bad. Don't know where you got that idea. I've seen as much whining about awful service online as "offline".

I think someone is not only a troll, but an LDS owner or employee. It's getting too personal to be otherwise...

And I think it's important to paste stuff that's written, to make sure to what post we're replying to :D

I know that there are some "slam em" LDS shops out there, but the vast majority that I have shopped at are owned by diving enthusiasts, who quite frankly, are sacrificing their optimum earning potential by continuing to operate a retail storefront.

How sad.

Here's another economic principle you seem to have missed: UTILITY.

Maybe they're getting less earnings, but who says they're not getting something else out of it?

Check out the concept of "utility" in your Econ 101 textbook...

I'm not totally for/against lds. I for one support mine with most purchases. The problem is that most of them want the purchases of one or two people to support them instead of offering their items at less than a 200-300%+ markup and sell to more customers, thus making the same end profit just off more merchandise sold.

Also, are you just that naive to think there would be no rec diving if the LDSs didn't exist?

First--What about all those people that get all their gear offline, they don't need an LDS at all.

Second--That crap gear they got from the web is most likely the same "crap" gear you got in the LDS unless they are buying from grey market stores or from overseas stores.

Third--Trust me, if LDSs aren't the only place to be able to supply air. There would just be another niche business that would start to open it's doors and that is the air fill business. You would be paying more for your fills but you would still be able to fill your tanks.

Fourth--No more dive vacations? Are you insane. Few resort locations make their money off sales of gear to you. They make their money off the diving, not gear sales. If you don't bring your own then they rent you gear (which they could also buy from the web if they didn't have an LDS).

Fifth--Four is true because most LDSs don't own their own boats. They pay the boat owner a charter fee and then mark that up to sell to you. So all that would happen here is that you would pay a cheaper price straight to the boat owner for your chartered seat since he wouldn't have the middle man to add additional markup.

I'm still not saying don't support your LDS but think about your arguments before you come on the board new and post them.

I have never had to go to my LDS to get a days diving.
I disagree that a LDS is essential for me to dive. If all of the necessary equipment can be aquired elsewhere then what is to stop me? There was diving before there were local dive shops. If some shops continue as they are and go out of business there will still be diving. The, "internet air fill", arguement is BS too. If there is a demand for it there will be a supply. I have yet to dive someplace that it was necessary to have a local shop, even for a fill. The boats I dive have compressors as do the quarries. If there were no shops in existance then even more places would have compressors. You do not need a shop to get instruction. Clubs and private instructors can and do do that currently. You don't need one for equipment and you don't need one for air. Convenient? Yeah. Necessary for the survival of diving? No.

My LDS - Sea Divers, in Ozark, AL- is an outstanding shop. Great people, great training (they're old school & still teach it that way, the NAUI OW class is 6 weeks & 55 hours of training), aware of the net & do what they can to compete. Can't say enough good things about them. In fact, I think its horrible that everyone else doesn't have as good a shop to trade with.
