Well, my lady and I are finally getting around to looking at the Philippines for our next dive trip, as we have wanted to get back to the south pacific ever since our trip to Australia ten years ago. There is a staggering amount of information here on this subject, as you all well know, and I am slowly sifting through it. One question arises, though, which is always a concern for me. What is the availability of large (bigger than 80 cf.) tanks? This is a significant concern for me, as I am the original air hog. I have even gone so far as to subsidize the purchase of a 130 cf. steel tank by my favorite liveaboard, just so that it would be there when I visited them. This is pretty hard to do outside the U.S., however, so I am dependent on available supplies of large tanks in most places. I have no idea what is available in the Philippines, but I bet someone here knows more about this. I am sort of looking at the Anilao area, but I am by no means married to this idea. Anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks for your help. Woody

I know that Atlantis (Puerto Galera, Dumaguette and their liveaboard) has larger tanks available.

Al80's are pretty ubiquitous. I mostly dive in Subic Bay - a few of the dive operations there have larger capacity tanks. I'd say it wasn't 'standard' for Philippines dive centers to offer them though.

I'd suggest doing a sidemount course. You'd never have to worry about gas supply again

Certainly a number of the "better" operators will offer larger tanks, but there may be a surcharge.

Andy is right though....sidemount would solve this problem for you forever!

Oh and p.s. the Philippines in not in the South Pacific, we're approx. 8-18 degrees North :)

The largest tanks I have seen in the Philippines are the 100cu inch or 15Liter tanks. As said by others usually only at the larger dive shops. TSD on Malapascua has them - can't recall the others off hand as I try to keep with the 80's. I too can really become an air hog when I am taking more photos of challenging subjects.

My husband was diving larger tanks at Pura Vida in Dauin. We were also at Turtle Bay in Moalboal, I think he was also diving larger tanks there but don't recall for sure.
