I keep hearing about people going to a lake and diving. Never done that before, but do you need your own gear to do this or can you rent it nearby? I'm guessing this isn't boat diving right?
 
You're right. These are shore dives.
We all, for the most part, have our own gear and tanks.
There are numerous dive shops from which you can rent gear.
What area of the metro area do you live in, generally speaking?
