Reefseal and I dove Lanes Cove this evening at dusk. We had the place to ourselves. Vis was much better than last time, ~15' at the start of the dive while the sun was still up, getting down to 5-7' with light by the end of the hour long dive. It was low tide, max depth was 49' with some very clear thermoclines at around 30', 57*F above the thermocline and 52*F below. Unfortunately I had the compass and therefore had to lead, and we ended up in an area reefseal had never been before with some great big crevasses in the boulders. We saw two giant lobster, a small-ish tautog, a couple striped bass checked us out, and a bright yellow sea raven. It was an all-around great dive!

Sounds like a good dive, thanks for the report

Nice! Jealous of the yellow sea raven. (I've only seen the red).

We dove Folly Cove on Sunday and had great vis. and saw a red sea raven. The vis was around 20' and there was an obvious thermocline at around 25ft. Temp was in the 50's.

I've seen the red, lavender, golden brown and sort of a granite gray but never yellow. Very cool!

Totally cool dive. Forgot to mention the one flounder trying to hide in crevice. Fencingfish has a good eye for spotting the critters. All my past dives at lanes, I have always headed towards the wall and folllowed it but I had never ventured towards the right side in area before the wall. The underwater terrain was very similar to parts of Cathedral ledge but you're only at 30 fsw! A great dive. After downloading dive from my computer, the coldest temp reading was 43.5* at the deepest spot of 49 fsw. It was noticable difference temp wise as we were heading back and nice to warm up. Definately one of my top 10 shore dives have ever done off Cape Ann.

The water was flat calm, winds sw 5-10 knots. We dove in just after low tide.
