Hi Folks

I'm visiting Las Vegas from the UK at the end of the month on business and have a free day on the Sunday. I was thinking about taking a trip from Vegas to Lake Mead to get a couple of dives in but have never dived in this region before, so I was hoping for some local knowledge.

I'm an instructor and have been diving years, so can handle pretty much whatever is available.

I would apprieciate any guidance here, I'd rather be underwater then stuck in a casino - it's less of a risk!

Thanks

James

Unfortunately, the desert dwellers are sucking up the water faster than it can make it there. Over the past several years, the Lake Mead water level has dropped over 100'. One of the marinas had to be moved and the other one is about to have to be moved before it's on dry land. The scuba park is no longer functional. They relocated diving to another area. You're better off staying in the casinos. There are lots of shows on during the day, most of them cheap or free, and they can keep you entertained. Or you can drive a couple of hours to Lake Mohave and do some decent diving in Cabinsite Cove. You'll find a submerged bus, van, and boat there. Check out Southwest Scuba. I haven't updated the site in a while, but it will give you some general information on the area.

Thanks

That's too bad, looks like I'll be staying dry in Las Vegas.

Thank you for the info. though, I could have taken my kit half way round the world to visit a dry lake.

Regards

James

No problem. Have fun in Las Vegas. It's a great town to visit. I'm not a gambler, but I used to go there 5-6 times a year when I lived in Arizona.

brace yourself, Las Vegas is pricey.... that said.. isn't the B29 going to be open to diving for a limited time?

You can find decent deals in Vegas. You just have to know where to look. They still sell $1.25 margaritas and beer on the strip.

The B29 is open to diving under permit with 2 shops in the area. For $450 you get 2 dives, one on the B29 and one at another site. I don't think this includes breathing gas.

Well that sucks. I too was going to be in Vegas at the end of this month with a day to kill, and was hoping for a diving excursion. Sounds like there's nothing at Mead for anyone other than tech divers though. :(
