Had a great time this weekend!

My bud, Jimmy, and I headed up yesterday (Saturday) afternoon and set up shop at the local campground about 1 mile past the "main street".

You know, the main that runs to the marina. It was sweet! $15 for a little grassy area, fire pit (we didn't use) bathrooms, and shower. It was a mobile home type trailer park with a gazillion seniors and their little dogs too. Not too long after we set the tents up, the wind picked up and the skies started brewing for a storm. We had hit the Arbys in Port Huron so, we mosied up to Sanilac to kill some time. Stopped at Four Fathoms to hopefully replace my bulb for my Ikelite. Didn't work out. No worries, plenty of lights to go around. Stopped at the Marina for Ice Cream. A MUST!! Had 2 scoops...mint chocolate chip and a fruit sherbert. Stopped by the party store for water, firewood, sparklers, and some popcorn. Started raining so, we hit the local pub where a 2 man band was rocking out. The power went out but, the band didn't ! It was so much fun we had a mixed berry piece of pie. We left toward the end of 'Sweet Caroline' Bah buh buh.... FUN! I guess it rained like crazy til 3am but, I was blacked out in my tent, snug as a bug.

In the morning, we hit the local resturant (the only one open?) for some coffee and breakfast. It was pretty good. The salsa was good but, only tobasco for hot sauce.

Made our way over to the Marina and Gary's boat where most of the divers were already setting up their gear. Quick introductions and a group shot, and we were off.

Ok, so here's the diving poop. It was awesome! The Mary Alice B was the first dive. 84ft 33 min 57 degrees. Awesome. Unfortunatley, I had some camera issues so, no pics on that wreck. We saw everything! Did a nice stroll starting out with the bathroom, to the wheelhouse, the galley, and the engine room. Vis was pretty good. I'm guessing at least 20+ft?? I'm not that good a judge. Sorry. This pic is from June and my favorite Mary Alice B picture.

Next was Regina. 74 ft 31 min 61 degrees. Again. Awesome. Current picked up a little and was pretty bumpy at the end. We were only able to stay on the one side of the wreck.. The side with the little swim thru.

There was a school of tiny fish right at the prop.

Got my first pic on the prop. That thing is HUGE!!

And saw some new debris.

The seas picked up considerably and the afternoon dives (we were not on) were blown out. Had lunch at the fancy resturant upstairs. Chicken and mushrooms in a white wine cream sauce with Michigan Cherrys over Fettucine. Passed out and slept the entire way home. :)

It was a good trip and I have a good dive buddy. I can't wait to do it again. :D

Nice report Tiggrr!

Was the group through Diver's Inc? I noticed my friend Dave M. was there - the one not wearing a shirt to match everyone else. & which diver are you?

Paula

paula, yes that is Dave M the loner without the fantastic purple shirts. Tiggrr, great recap. Lunch was good, but I should have bought a bite of Dave's fried green tomato sammie

one of the divers that Didnt get to do thier afternoon dives due to waves...

bummer... I want those 8hrs of my life back, what a shot in the arse day... :(

We were out all day - hit five wrecks in all: New York, Checotah, North Star, Mary Alice B & Regina. The waves actually calmed down a little in the afternoon; no whitecaps but still some 4 foot rollers... We had two or three people looking pretty green!

Here are some pics from the New York & the Checotah: Bruno's Dive Shop - Dive Charter Photos 08.25.08 (New York and Checotah).

Cheers

Rick
