Felt the need to get wet Sunday so we headed out to Lake 16 in Allegan County. For those who don't know, it's a small, spring-fed (read:cold!) lake that's been clandestinely set up as a dive training site, with platforms, sunken boats, cars, snowmobiles, etc.
The dive team was Ross Richardson, Todd White, Bob Underhill, Carl (sorry Carl, didn't get your last name) and me.
Carl was diving the new Aqualung double-hose retro rig -- and even did the Mike Nelson flip to bring the hose up over his head!) Ross was trying out his doubles, while Todd, Bob and I dove singles. I, being the wuss I am, dove with my Aga full-face mask. I was nice and toasty even in the 39-40 degree water..
Todd, Ross and I were dry, while Bob and Carl dived their Uni-suits with wet hoods and gloves, which made them semi-dry (or "wet" as we call it!)
The viz was close to 25 feet which, as Lake 16 divers know, is very rare. Usually it's about 5 feet. Ross and I had made the same dive a week earlier and viz was awful. Maximum depth was about 85 feet.
Most of us made the whole circuit, with plenty of air left to frog around at the main platform for a while. Lots of new "treasure" has been brought to the platform in the form of a typewriter, a clock, hammer, hatchet and other items of questionable interest. Oh well, beats looking at nothing...
I understand the platform and "bell" were tilted and about to sink a few weeks ago but Mike Palmer and the American Dive Zone crew put in some labor to spruce things up. Thanks, Mike!
Afterwards it was beer at the Sam's Joint-"Red Brick Inn", then home in time to see Jack Bauer save the world again!
