So my buddy and I continued our exploration of Laguna Beach shore diving sites today. It seemed to us that the dives spots at Anita, Oak, Thalia, Cleo, and Sleepy Hollow are essentially the same dive spot, but with entry points wherever you can find parking topside. Are there truly any differences in these locations? Any recommendations on which have more or less to offer? I'd hate to keep diving one and miss the sweet spot just because it was the location with available parking spaces. I don't mind going for a walk.

I dove off Divers cove in May, there was a patch of kelp about 100-200 yards off shore.

Surface swam out there and dropped down when we got to the kelp, was an awesome dive- tons of larger fish and a cool reef-

Also saw 4-5 batrays off of shaws cove- I believe it was mating season

Night dives at Shaws are enjoyable as well-

I've done about 20 or 30 dives in Laguna, and the spot I found off divers is my favorite- Will be back at the end of this month to do some more!

I appreciate the input. I've checked the websites, and have dove Divers, Fishermen, Shaw's, etc. They are all great sites. We are simply trying to explore some "new" sites, which we found in various books, websites, etc. They simply don't detail the difference between the 5 sites I just listed, all within a city block of each other and along the same beach. Are these simply different access points to the same dive interests, or are there differences between them?

I can't do the poll because I'm not familiar with Laguna Beach. You should have posted this in the Socal forum and not in Basic Scuba.

I'm just sayin'

I agree. I moved the post to this forum.

That kelp patch is probably my favorite spot too. Fairly pristine since most people don't want to make the surface swim, lots of fish, gorgonians-o-plenty, typically good vis...very neat little spot. I still get a little nervous as I'm heading towards it underwater...when I get close it feels like I'm heading into some sort of black abyss, then the rocks/kelp start to take shape.

Again, thank you for the feedback on the kelp bed off Divers Cove. I am very familiar with it. It is in fact wonderful. The question I posted was regarding the five access points from the five streets listed in the poll. Please provide only feedback on those sites and discuss other sites in other forums. I'm not trying to be rude, but I'd like to keep this one from running off into 10 different directions like so many other posts.
