We are in Loreto and thinking about going down to La Paz for a day or two of diving this week. Is it worth it? We have done countless dives here in Loreto and only want to go to La Paz for a high chance of seeing some exciting larger species. Advice and specific recommendations greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I would say a dive to los Islotes to the sea lion colony is a worthy dive -- but it is off limits for the summer, for breeding and pupping season.

Not sure of other dives, I think someone posted a vid of hordes of mobula rays that may be available at the furthest reaches from La Paz, but I dont think its a "regular" dive -- i think they are found along an island even further than los Islotes.

Note that boat trips from La Paz tend to be on the longer side. About 90 min to los Islotes, and at least 30 min. to other sites.

I just arrived in La Paz. I stopped in a local dive shop and was thinking of going out for a 2 tank boat dive. It has been a while since I have dove. Is 4200 pesos for a 2 tank boat dive a fair price these days. I remember when we paid 350 dollars for 10 dives in Florida. The dives were described to me as patch reefs over sandy bottoms. I asked about the El Sargento side (where I visited yesterday). It is a beautiful spot. The shop said the diving there is so so.

Cannot speak to La Paz, but curious who you have been diving with in Loreto and how the experience has been?
