Hi we want to go to La Paz to dive with the seal lions but I know the larger area for the seal lions is closed for the summer. is the closer area still good? is it worth the trip?

we are a family of 3 divers and 1 snorkeler

This is our last summer together before my oldest son goes to college. so we want to do a trip this summer. if not lapaz than maybe another with both snorkeling

So is it worth going in the summer? will we still see a lot of sea lions at the closer locations? how is the town? any tips on where to stay or who to dive with?

thanks
T

The smaller location is San Rafaelito lighthouse, where there is a bachelor colony. I only snorkeled it. You will probably see some sea lions, but, I dont think its nearly as cool as the breeding colony at los Islotes, with the babies coming to nibble on you and the ginourmous bulls cruising by ( I scuba'd here).

If you click my account, you can find my trip report of La Paz. Some drawbacks (long boat rides). The town itself has tons of great food, especially seafood.

My personal opinion. Los Islotes is a site not to be missed. Maybe y'all can fit it in another time.
