La Jolla Woman Diver in Critical Condition.

The only information we have is that the woman diver left her two companions to head back to the beach alone, and was then found floating face down. The reporter on this story has had a great deal of trouble getting information from authorities. Any additional information you can provide would be very welcome.

Yep, exactly...

Her BUDDIES took her back to shore ( side note this was a walk in dive not a boat) When an unfortunate event took place. We are uncertian as to what exactly happened, but was an medical event not related to the dive. The buddy system was followed please stop assuming you know what happend.

I still wonder what she was doing in the water alone. I'm glad to read that the other two did take her back tho.

Your right Mike this is a Accident Forum and people discuss the accident to understand as to how and why it happened . But i honestly think sometimes people just go a little to overboard with it.

I am always sorry to hear of people being upset or hurt by what they read here. Anyone involved or close to someone who has had a negative event in their lives is already upset and therefor more likely to be further upset by what others say regarding the event.

The goal of this forum and those posting in it is gain knowledge to prevent future incidents. That means in some cases the event that is the starting point of any given thread is just that... a starting point for discussion. It is not about blaming or disrespecting anyone. Sometimes comments cause us to take "side trips" to examine "what if's" that are not really part of the specific incident but are valuable. These "side trips" may provide information or insights that educate and prevent further events for people who may read the thread months or perhaps even years later.

We seldom get "cold hard facts" so we rely on intuitive side trips to explore potentials. When loved ones/witnesses are able to post facts according to their observations we try to deal with them while respecting the impact the event has had on them. The purpose of this forum to educate/protect/prevent people from future dive accidents makes it too valuable to close because of our very real concerns for those impacted by the specific events. These threads also trigger prayers/condolences for those effected. Hopefully loved ones will find some little comfort in that depending on belief systems.

It is my policy to see my buddy to the exit and end the dive but on occasion for whatever reason I may want to continue the dive. With that in mind it is of great personal value to me for the future safety of both my buddies and myself to know -if you are comfortable letting us know -... at what point the other divers decided to resume their dive. You say they accompanied the diver to the exit so I am wondering if the diver was out of the water and re-entered or nearly out of the water and perhaps impacted by something and couldn't get back up. I am thinking of the conditions when I dived LaJolla Shores in June... this diver's combination of lack of experience with surf entry/exits, arthritic knees and an independent nature made the exit ... interesting.....

Just a couple of questions.
1. Why did the "family" of the other two divers refer to the victim as "the lady?"
2. If the buddies escorted her in, why was she found in the water?
3. Is there a criminal negligence investigation into this accident?
Just wondering out loud. No disrespect meant to anyone.
