Just a thought, I've seen more than a few underwater plagues and they all suffer from marine growth and the inevitable cleaning. Sooner or later the plaque becomes illegible. What if her name was deeply imprinted in a concrete plaque? Something like this:

I will go to Bataeff and see if they have any copper that will work. Titanium would be a bit impractical both in expense and marine growth.
Copper retards marine growth (cuperous oxide on bottom paint).
If Bataeff doesn't have anything I will go to Metal Service Center and see what they have or what they can get and the cost.
The etching is easy. I have a good source for the sand blast stencil cut and I can do the blast.
You guys come up with the written part and PM me with it.

I just talked to Kristina's ex-husband, who saw her through her first accident, and who was there when she passed away. I brought up the subject of us making a memorial plaque for her, but were unsure of the location. Without hesitation, he said, "South Monastery, that is where she died the first time, and where she was reborn."

Maybe we should consider it. I know, it's only diveable on calm days, by more experienced divers, but I'll help with it and visit it no matter where we decide for a final location.

Can the etching do a picture?

Her past husband does have a valid point to South Monastery.

The challenges there are strong surge and currents. The other plaque located in the area, is it known to move? Is there a good location for the plaque to go there?

It could be delivered to the area by boat either from Still Water or Lobos. Doing it on a weekday would be easy to get into Lobos.

The biggest benefit to the BW is more people would see it. The plaque is for the living and the more that can appreciate it the better. Hmmm...what to do?

What do you guys think it is the cost? If it is not too much perhaps do both? I was thinking of contributing $50 but will add more if we need two.

Two plaques sounds even better. She had a LOT of friends and dive buddies. :D

I liked the breakwater idea, the visibility would be much higher and the weathering I presume would be less. I believe that putting it in South Monastery might encourgage people to dive there that might not have the experience to do so (Like me) to see it. Perhaps if asked again and given a few small reasons why it might not be a good idea he would change his mind? I think if word gets out about the plaque people will want to see it that wouldn't have dove there otherwise and might get hurt doing so.

Just a few thoughts.

Chad

I forgot to say. I totally agree about doing the plaque under the radar. If the question is officially posed they will have to follow the official procedures (Red tape) that I forsee as not helping in any way. Do it under the radar otherwise it probably wont be able to be done at all.
