Really? The fact that a few boats have had trouble / sunk / caught fire in a particular area over the past few years is going to make that much of a difference on your decision about liveabord vs resort on a future trip? To each his own, I guess, but I don't let small worries bother me that much. For me, much more important issues include service at the resort / boat considered, cost differences, the commutes to dive sites, ability to get to remote dive site, ammenities at the resort / boat, sea sickness, dry land under my feet, space for working with cameras / privacy, interaction with other guests / staff, food, etc., etc. The chance of the boat having trouble or the resort having a fire / earthquake / tsunami are so far down my list of considerations that they never occur to me until I am checking in and on the way to the cabin / room. Even then, it's just a matter of keeping aware of what is going on and taking a few minutes to consider what things I can do if there is a problem.
