In my wreck class we did a bunch of no mask work, and in cold water to boot. And pinching ain't allowed! Gotta learn to close off the nose without pinching, breath through the mouth and relax ... that's the hard part!

I've decided I need to regularly practice this, so I'm game.

I am not sure where your instructor got that skill for PADI nitrox class. It sounds like GUE Tech 1 class. TDI Adv. Nitrox and Deco didn't teach the mask drill in that way as I recall. Maybe, I didn't notice because I haven't had any trouble without mask.

Try this.. It has been practiced in India and China for a long time.. It has worked great. In addition, it helps no mask drill as well...

PADI Nitrox? It was a wreck class and it isn't required in PADI standards. It was "extra"! It was actually great practice. I can actually do fine without a mask. All the years as a competitive swimmer has helped me with breath control and to be able to breath in/out of my mouth while closing off my nose. Any serious swimmer has to be able to do that.

The reason I'd like to practice it regularly in a safe environment, like sitting at a safety stop, is that I find I need to work on relaxing while breathing without a mask. I can do the skill, but loosing the visual reference makes it pretty stressful. I want to work on remaining relaxed.

Sorry.. That's a typo error, not "Nitrox", but "Wreck." Good if it helps and I am sure it is a good drill.

But, in my perspective, it is beyond the course content, even for Adv. Nitrox and Deco.

Just simple question, if then, why don't you bring a back up mask?

I do. Always dive with one now. I still think it's a good skill to have in your bag of tricks.

Good... You are my buddy for a spare mask...:lotsalove:

Like I said, maybe, I was so lucky because even I didn't notice the problem on my nose when I performed no mask drill and line drill. Min and I only closed eyes because of a contact lens....

Wally ... IDC is doing BS on 10/27, so I bet you'll want to go someplace else.

I'd suggest either Haigh or France Park.

I think you used the wrong emoticon Jim. It should have been :stirpot: You should have seen the emails that got sent between Mike and I. I was soo wrong. I just got tired of hearing about needing 20 for the discount and how three of us were going to make the difference. I didn't let the cat out of the bag about 10 being the number on the forum, figured they had a reason.

Sounds like we have plenty of people that want to practice drills like we should be doing anyway. I could also use some long hose drills since I really haven't practiced much.

No, MT just wasn't able to negotiate as good of a deal as WT did. When I saw the 20 @ $15 ea I just chuckled to myself.

Then I :stirpot: with the price by accident. I just told him that we usually get the price for 10 not 20.

BTW, I don't care where we dive for drills.

No way ... it's MY spare mask, not MY BUDDIES!

As long as I am your buddy in UW, you have to give it to me when I need it. Otherwise, I have to teach you about the buddyship (? in English). :rofl3: Right?

If then, my private lake.... It is free... (off the record).. Jim and Wally are welcome..

I have been at BS last two weeks, so I need to dive other place...
