Do people go diving in North Thaialnd? :D Going to Chiang Mai or Mae Hong Son?

Dunno, there might be some rivers or puddles around and who knows what scary creatures might live there  Thinking of going to either Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai - but I rather not get wet! :D

I am a divemaster in Pattaya. I would not come here as it is best for training. I have been here two years now and have dived all over Thailand. If I had my choice it would only be the Similians. Really good diving. Amazing clarity and pelagics. Otherwise I like Koh Tao despite all the other divers. Phi Phi and the King Crusier wreck are nice too. Pattaya does have good wrecks though.

Although Phi Phi has beautiful waters this is the wrong time to go. You're better off staying within the Gulf of Thailand until the weather improves for places like Phuket/Phi Phi which will be towards Feb/March.
That leaves Pattaya and Samui and Samui is the better of the two. It also has relatively easy access to Koh Tao, Chumphon Pinnacle, Sail rock, the Marine park, etc

I went to Samui at the start of August and dived with Samui International Diving School. They've a nice new fast speed boat that will get you out and back fairly fast, even to Koh Tao. We were back from there after two dives and lunch by about 3:30pm and got to see 8 bull sharks together at Chumphon Pinnacle

Have fun whichever you choose
