Hi Mike,

Smart move.

Here's wishing your a smooth operative procedure & speedy recovery.

Happy holidays.

DocVikingo

good luck on your upcoming surgery........I am sure you are the dive instructor that works with John and I was hoping that I could have you as an instructor in the new year, but I guess i will have to wait or work with just John...( which isn't a bad thing)

Thanks for the good luck wishes Butch and Doc.

Butch,
I do work with John, he and I are a team.
John has just as many years diving as I do (since 72 and We dove the Empress of Ireland
together on trimix last September). I was fortunate to meet him when I first moved to the area. I trained him as an AI and he taught by my side until he qualified as an Instructor. We both did our Nitrox training, O2 cleaning and gas blender and our Nitrox Instructor's together.

You should have no reservations about signing up with John as your instructor. He is very competent, and like his mentor, he plays it by the book.

I will be assisting John with the class in January until my surgery mid February, then I'll be out of commission for 6 weeks. My plan (approved my Doctor) is to back in the pool and class room for our second beginner class (1st week of April),
and be ready for Open waters in Last 2 weeks of May and 1st 2 weeks of June.
Looking forward to meeting you.

Mike

I know John is a good instructor...I have no problems whatsoever working with him ....He and Linda speak very highly of you also...I was hoping to be able to have both of you work with me in the future as I increase my knowledge and skills........

Once again best of luck and Merry Christmas

I had my knee replacement in June of 2003, it was a double knee replacement and I am only 54 years old. I did fine. The thing you have to remember with diving is that you need to be able to bend your knees so you can get back up in the boat. I tried this out before we went diving as we have a boat so made sure I could get back up on the ladder. I have been riding a bike and that really helps strengthen the knee and swimming is great also. I did not have to go to rehab as i was determined not to. But did have physical therapy afterwards. I was up and walking without a walker in about 10 days, but i was still in alot of pain. I did wait a year before i went diving. And then I did 12 dives on that trip. and we are going again this week to Cozumel but will only be doing 8-9 dives on this trip.Good luck on diving after replacement. It can be done if you want it.
