Hey, so here's my question:

I recently started diving with doubles (AL80s) and finning has been causing me some serious knee pain (note: I have occassional knee pain in any case - flat feet). I am not sure whether this is directly related to the doubles themselves or is maybe the result of inefficient or extensive finning or even the fins themselves (slipstreams). Or even some a combination of all of the above? If anyone has any insight into the root of this problem or, more likely, into what *I'm* doing to cause it, I'd appreciate it.
Cheers,
af.

What kind of kick are you using? You are moving around more freight with the doubles but it all depends on how hard you are kicking. If you already have knee pain by walking, carrying the extra weight while you are walking might also be a problem. I don't know anyone who has a problem with knee pain with frog kicking, but I do know some who come out of the water pretty sore when they flutter kick. I see you are also from Canada and interested in DIR. If you are on the West coast let me know and I can send you links and emails to a bunch of people who you could dive with. This group is very active and dives several times per week. They can also videotape your kicks and you might get some good feedback there.

Hey, thanks for your response. I'm only using frog kick. I guess it could very well be carrying the extra weight on land (I'm sure climbing over rocks doesn't help), which then carries over to activity in the water. I'm actually on the east coast, but I agree that videotaping at this point would be constructive. Good idea. I'll get on that for the weekend.

If your boyfriend was any kind of man, he'd be carrying your doubles for you ;) :rofl3:

In all seriousness, frog kicking is a bit tougher on the knees (IMO). Maybe you just need to slow down a little? Either way, I'm glad to hear the doubles diving went(mostly) well for you.

When are you coming back to visit?

Yeah, boyfriend, about that...
I'm happy with the way things went, actually. No big problems, good trim (tweaking required)... knee pain is a drag though.
I won't make it out there until the winter. I was thinking maybe this month, but then I got back from the west coast, took the doubles for a spin and, well, now there are other expenses... hm.. yeah ;) dear me. SOON THOUGH!

Casa Deepstops is open to you. Just let me know what you want in the 80s when you get here. (um, the correct answer is 32) :)

Yes, keep us all in the loop about when you will be back to FL. Maybe we can actually dive together this time. If we dive on Kevin's boat you can do your usual backroll. I'll do my wussy giant stride.

OK hijack over.
