I dove King philips last month with a few buddies. What a great dive. If you dive it bring a back up light, its dark. Who has a boat? Id love to dive it again. I have 99 logged dives. The abys would be a great 100th dive. Lets go, im free next weekend. ;)

It's apparently "loaded" with flora and fauna that the biologists, etc. want to study before joe-diver trashes the joint in search of adventure.

That's probably why, but I've got to laugh at the logic.

They can't measure it because it is dark. Their bottom time is limited to 20 minutes because it's 120 feet deep.

Yeah, I'm sure that we are talking about a real crack team.

Do I hear road trip? Definately not a shore dive. Who do we know that hasn't sealed their boat for season that we can get us out there? (one with depth finder)

see ya tonight at UDNH Banquet for Bernie Chowdhury presentation.

Luis

p.s. anyone interested, still tickets available. In Manchester, NH. Bernie is author of the Last dive.

Probably not qualified for decompression, or it's a liability the UMASS does not want to accept. I'll bet they are "bouncing" to the deepest part then riding their 'puters to the surface to avoid a deco obligation.

Perhaps someone should offer to help them survey the site?

I'm sure that you're right.

Regardless, I wouldn't mind helping them survey.

Thanks for the replies and the links. I dosent seem like to many diver have dove the Abyss. It sounds like a very interesting dive. Im not a big fan of fresh water diving but it might be a great spot when the seas are bad.

I'd say you probably are correct.

I was a scientific diver at URI and if UMass is anything like URI, they would not be allowed to do deco diving. Just getting cleared to dive to that depth at all would be a hassle. There are quite a few hoops to jump through.

They are probably more afraid of rival scientists than they are about joe-diver. I imagine it is more a fear of being scooped than a fear of someone trashing the site.
