Jumping in Kinda Late sorry.
I know people chop urchins around here too. Professionals on tour in my opinion shouldnt be doing it.
They are doing to entertain people while on there tour, It is a local custom used in spearfishing too.
If your dive pro does this on your tour
1. Do not tip him
2. Complain to the owner and to him to his face so he knows how you interpetid his act. That is the only way it will stop. He will think twice before he cuts another up with someone present.
If spearfisherman want to do that, I have no quarrel with. They are doing to hunt.
Also DO NOT bring peas and cheese whiz and feeding it to the fish. you are messing the ecosystem up. If these acts happen routinley, the fish become acustom and expect it. they do not go to thier natural places of the food chain.
We have an algae based system here and these fish in some spots are not eating the algae. they are eating peas and cheeze whiz and what ever people want to through over board that is eadible to them. So they are full and not eating the algae.
In some spots up the Na Pali as soon as you moor up. There is a cloud of fish uder your boat just waiting.
The sad thing is I understand and see what happening most dont.
