Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has used the Sand Penny club at the Sand Dollar Resort Bonaire for their young kids. My wife and I are thinking of going some time in the winter with our 4 year old son but we were looking for some type of first person report before we decided to shell out the money to bring him or leave him at home with the grand parents. Any experiences at the Sand Dollar would be helpful to hear about, but particularly child care issues.

We too are considering this place for next winter with our 4 year old. Has anyone used their kid's camp?

My wife and I have a condo at Sand Dollar but no kids so we have not used the service personally. I can tell you a few things about SD though. First, unlike many resorts the pool is located at the back of the property, not oceanfront as many are. The pool is however completly renovated and now has a shallow kiddie area at one end that waterfalls to the deeper end, but very safe for little kids. The onsite restaurant is right there so it is very nice for kids to play and adults to grab a bite to eat or relax and read in one of the lounge chairs.

I do know that one of the condos is used as a play area for the kids in the program and have seen the staff with them a few times doing craft stuff I guess. I have to admit I did not pay much attention except to say they were quiet.

NO hotel on Bonaire has a large beach area, just not that kind of island but Sand Dollar does have a small beach that is perfect for letting the little ones get their feet wet in a controlled enviroment with no big waves. Its location is right in front of my unit and I got to see a little guy do his first snorkel my last trip and it was cool. You can also hire locals as babysitters I have been told.

I would email Sand Dollar directly to get more specifics, and I do think the service is free up to a certain age.

Hope this helps,
Patrick
