Thanks for all of the great info!

I have what might be a stupid question. But hey, at least I am smart enough to know that the stupidest ones are the ones where we guess at the answers instead of asking the experts.

Since nitrogen absorbtion is a potential issue, would it make any sense to add an additional safety stop when max depth is in the 40' range? My wife, daughter and I will generally be diving together. My wife's air consumption is greater than mine and my daughter's. If we would normally start ascent with about 1200 psi (daughter and I), and are at the boat at that point, a 3-5 min stop at 30' and then 3-5 mins at 15' would still get us to the surface with plenty of air without reducing bottom time. Would that provide any possibility of reducing the risk, or is it just a wasted effort?

Thanks again!

On a 40 foot dive its likely wasted effort, but so what? Are you doing anything else important at that moment? If nothing else its good practice, buoyancy control, etc.

Hi Walt1957,

It wouldn't make much sense to perform a stop at 30' on a dive with a max depth in the 40' range. In fact, that stop well could result in more inert gas being loaded than unloaded.

If you wish to add an extra margin of safety, slow the ascent, take an extended safety stop at ~15' and lengthen the surface interval.
