Does anyone have experience renting boats in the Keys? I'm looking for a viable option for a once a month dive trip. I can't afford a boat, so that's out of the question. I'm stuck renting. I prefer the Key Largo/Islamorada area, but will look into any suggestions. Thanks for any advice that may be offered.

tavernier boat rental and robbies of Islamorada are two, never use them but robbies has a website to check out

unless you plan on doing several dives in a given day and/or are really interested in exploring on your own(both perfectly acceptable strategies), then it's really cheaper to take a charter...but a good rental option in Islamorada is www.floridakeysrentalboat.com , there is a good dive shop right next door

Try John Pennekamp State Park. Their rates are very reasonable, but you'd better book ahead.
