I am re-marrying and going to Key Largo for the honeymoon in May. We will only be snorkling and I wondered if anyone has suggestions for good places to go? Ideas for other fun places would also be appreciated.

This sticky has loads of info. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/florida-conch-divers/231435-florida-keys-guide.html

Also try reading some of the prior threads in Florida Conchs Forum and using the Search feature :search:.

Key Largo has lots of diving & boats. And many nice restaurants too (there is a recent thread on that subject as well) KL but has less night life. If you plan to do mostly diving, KL is the place to dive & kick back. There are more and more fishing charters the further south you go such as Islamorada, Marathon, etc. Key West has less diving but more tourism and night life. KW is a 2 hr drive south from KL. KW has a great Butterfly Sanctuary, Hemmingway's home, Mel Fisher Museum, Truman's summer White House, forts, Mallory Square at sunset, etc.

Check out The Official Tourism Council Web Site for the Florida Keys! Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Lower Keys, Key West.

Have fun!

Not sure where you are planning on staying, but I stayed at the Holiday Isle resort in Islamorada (a short way from Key Largo) and they did snorkling trips there. They just took people out a short way from the resort, not sure if it was a reef out there or not. Then check out their Tiki Bar, it ROCKS. (Or at least it did 7-8 yrs ago.) Drive to Key West for a day trip.

Just in case you are interested ... Silent World has some sort of deal going with several lodging places nearby to give their divers discounts if booked through the dive shop. You can go to Silent World's website and see the options:

Silent World: Accommodations

Looking myself, I saw $1500 for 9 nights at the Ocean Pointe Suites. I asked the dive shop if they could top that ... they got m $1200 for 9 nights. Ocean Pointe Suites appears to be a nice place, too:

Key Largo Hotels: Ocean Pointe Resort Suites Florida Keys FL Islamorada area resorts weekly monthly condos rentals sport fishing vacations

That is cheaper than our normal booking in Gulf Shores at the Phoenix West. By all means, give the dive shop booking a try - you might be pleasantly surprised. We are booking 4 members of the family for 10 dives each while down there ... dives are going to run us approx. $27 per dive. Not bad! It's the stupid airline tickets that nail you.

93 days and counting!
