Hi Michael,

We have been to the Holiday Inn near Marker 100, (Key Largo) the rooms on the court yard open right up to the pools (salt and fresh), hottub and the tiki bar and were only built a few years ago! There is usually a band out there on the weekends. The dive boats leave from the pier which is only a short walk (less that 100 feet) away! There are a few great restaurants close by including a place called "Marker 88". We got the tip from our dive boat Captain and it was really nice you can sit out on the water and watch the sunset and get great food (a bit expensive, but worth it). The hotel itself has pretty good food and across the street there is a great breakfast place!

Next door there is a plaza with a large dive shop, drug store, grocery store and many other small stores! Behind the hotel is a pretty nice bar/dance club. The hotel offers great dive packages with the room and almost everything I have mentioned is a short walk way. Only thing I am not sure of is a beach close buy...as we never have looked for one, but there is a suncruz sail boat that goes out and I bet your wife could get in a little sunbathing on it! Hope this was helpful!

I'm planning a trip in July with my wife. We're trying to figure out whether to go to Islamorada or Key Largo, and where to stay.

My wife is a diver, but she's not diving on this trip because she's pregnant. So, while I'm diving, it's important to her that there's a nice pool area and some beach options.

It's important to me that she enjoy the place we're staying at, and that it's convenient for my diving.

I've pulled a bunch of names of dive operators from other SB threads and from recommendations of some friends.

I'm interested in some advice on a place to stay that will be convenient for my diving and will make my wife happy with a nice pool, hopefully a beach and some nearby food.

I know there's a Marriott, a Sheraton, a Holiday Inn and a host of other places in Key Largo. I'm open to suggestions and information.

I am also aware of The Islander and Holiday Isle in Islamorada. Same thing, in that I'm open to suggestions and information.

Thank you very much for any thoughts.

Ocean Pointe Condos in Key Largo are pretty cool. It's just before you get to Tavineer (SP?) on the Ocean Side. I got a two bedroom condo for 150 a night with bags of goodies. Private grounds, nice nature area to walk through, overlooks the ocean, pool, BBQ grills next to the pool, quiet area, friendly staff and residents. Might be pricey, but to be honest, you have bags of room (seperate bathrooms; kitchen; living room w/cable) and the area is really quite beautiful. Suggest you scope it out. I think you'll be pleasently surprised, I know both my wife and I were!
Best of luck!

We were in Islamorada in April / May... Can't remember the name of the resort, can look it up for you (or call JL)..

We dove with Keys Dives (@ Bud n Mary's Marina) and Conch Republic Divers.. Both were good, the nudge goes to CRD... Captain / Mate were awesome... If you dive with them, tell them I said Hi!

Here's another vote for Islamorada and the Moorings, fantastic place with a great beach. Plenty of shopping, things to do, and great places to eat.
My favorites are Lazy Daze and Morada Bay to eat, and diving with OceanQuest
