I am planning a trip to Key Largo on Sept 27. I know that is still a few weeks out but I was wondering if anyone could tell what vis at Spiegel Grove and The Duane has been as of late and if there has been any weather systems there recently that might mess the water up? Last year we were at Key West about 3 weeks after a big storm and the viz was still messed up.

Thanks

This has definitely been an unusual year for weather in Key Largo. More rain and waves than usual for sure. We had a group trip diving with Rainbow Reef last month and the weather did not give us much of a break at all. But right after we left, they had some amazingly calm seas!

This far in advance, it's impossible to tell. With the absence of any tropical activity, it's normally a GREAT time of year to dive those sites. Wishing you all the best :D

I'm heading down labor day weekend and I will post a report when I get back. I've been reading a lot of trip reviews from recent trips and there has indeed been some funky weather. We have not had a big storm yet either, so fingers crossed it all stays away!

My wife and I just dove Spiegel Grove on Sunday of last week. Vis was about 65 feet, typical unpredictable and strong current. Moon jellies coming in from about 20 feet and up in large schools - the safety stop was a bit painful - my bad for wearing a shorty this time of year. The Duane had the same jellies, but better vis at about 75 and less current. I'll just say that conditions in SoFla have been quite sporty lately.
