Planning a trip to Key Largo for my Check out Dives for my certification through SDI. Was wondering what wetsuit thickness I should have for June? From what I've gathered from previous older threads is that people are diving 3mm and 5mm in the Spring and the Winter. And Summer months everyone is wearing Swimsuits and Skins? I'm kind of leaning towards a 3mm since I plan on doing multiple dives through the day for 3 or 4 days. Thoughts?

I was just there last weekend. My 3mm was perfect.

Water temp is 79-80 degrees today , even with all the rain . I think you would be
fine in a 3 mm wet suit . Better to have the wet suit than not , if you think it is warm
you can always leave it on the boat .
Safe diving !

If you decide to wear a wet suit in June do not put it on at the dock. Wait until you are close to or at the dive site. I have seen too many divers get sick or dehydrated in a chop and 95 degree heat.

Are you doing deep dives for your checkout? Or shallow?

I've been to the keys in September, and in shallow dives a pair of shorts and a t-shirt are all that you'll need.

You can look up average water temperatures online easily, see how they match what you've been in. Call the shop you'll be diving with, and see what their opinion is as well. if you're below a thermocline for any length of time, a skinsuit or 2-3mm should still be more than enough.

A fleecy skin is about the maximum you want in S. Florida in June.

Looks like the extended forecast says thunderstorms during my trip...Might have to cancel :(
