Taking a family member to Key Largo for some diving.

Any of you have some advice on a good hotel to stay at (not too worried about price)?
Any restaraunts we should check out?

I want to make it a good trip, but haven't been here long enough to know the keys very well.

Thanks!!

Here is a little place we stayed in May 02. It is 60's ish but well maintained. I would go back. http://www.sunsetcoveflorida.com/index.html

It's just my opinion but the Key Largo HoJo's is a dump to be avoided at all cost. We could not get reservations at Sunset the second weekend and made the mistake of checking into the HoJo's...never again.

While I have enjoyed my stays at Sunset Cove and the sister property, Hungry Pelican, they aren't what I'd call great hotels. I enjoy the "Key's atmosphere" of the places, but I don't stay there when my wife comes along.

The Westin just down the road a bit is a reasonable place and even has little tiny beach. I'm sure others can provide info on some of the hotels around the MM100 marina, such as the Ramada and the Marina Del Mar Resort.

I do highly recommend the Bayside Grill, which is adjacent to Sunset Cove. Great sunset views from the upper floor. MM99.5 bayside, hidden back behind Cafe Largo, at the point where the median starts at the S end of Key Largo.

The Marina Del Mar has clean and comfortable rooms and only a very short walk from Ocean Divers and a great restaurant that is above it. I think its called the galley.

Kelly's on the Bay (www.aqua-nuts.com) is really terriffic. Great (and cheap) resturant next door and Aqua-nuts dive operation on-site. They're a terriffic value and I'd recommend them any day of the year.

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful.
I greatly appreciate the input
